Test benches for study of engine frictional characteristics

Frictional horsepower of an engine decides its efficiency. The test rig facilitates monitoring of frictional torque accurately both at crank shaft and wheel shaft ends, in order to evaluate frictional horse power at various speeds and at various crank angle positions. A high performance planetary form of transmission was used to step-up speeds up to 10,000 rpm. Separate brush-less rotating torque transducers monitor the frictional torque both at crank shaft and wheel shaft ends. The test rig construction ensures adequate mechanically rigidity to minimize vibration with facility for easy mounting and flexibility for adjustments of the test units in all three directions.
